Steam Launch 34

Description
BEN GUNN was built by Ian Ablett and launched in 2004, based on a 1903 blue print of a boat that once plyied the waters of the River Thames in England. At 34' in length, she carries up to 8 passengers, averages 10 mph, and flies an American flag and one of the Isle of Sark, Ian's native home.

Kerosene fires the horizontal boiler that produces 150 pounds of steam in just 10 minutes and drives the 20 hp compound reciprocating steam engine. The boiler's capacity is 15 gallons of water and features a closed recirculating system so no additonal water is needed as the boat runs. She has hydraulic steering and a single prop.

She is built of Philippine mahogany for the hull, deck and interior with basswood gratings and oak ribs. Construction took 3 years with an additional year for sanding and brush applied varnish, hand rubbed between all coats. She comes complete with a custom tandem axle trailer.

BEN GUNN has logged over 400 hours and won numerous awards at boat shows - a testament to her unique character, impeccable construction and captivating spirit! There is nothing else like her.

Her owner is building another vessel and will consider all offers.
