Description
Bertram 31 'Thunderstreak'
Originally built for Tommy Sopwith for the 1963 Cowes-Torquay powerboat race. Designed by Ray Hunt it was built with a specially streamlined cabin to comply with the Cowes-Torquay rules.
It raced for a few years in the 1960s and was then modified further with the addition of a rear cabin and wheelhouse.
I purchased Thunderstreak a few years ago with the intention of turning it back (as near as possible) to her original specification with the intention of fulfilling my ambition to attempt the Cowes-Torquay powerboat race this year (2015). All was going well until a vee drive gear broke and we had to retire from the race. New gears are currently being made.
Thunderstreak is great fun, sounds brilliant and is perfect for poker runs or offshore racing. Eligible for the Venture World Cup 2016 (Round Ireland race).
The boat is in race trim ie. bare cabin apart from sink and toilet, so someone could easily personalise to suit their own requirement.
I would consider selling without the engines and drives so Thunderstreak may equally be of interest for someone to convert for a fishing use.
