Solid ride makes her the perfect loop boat or great live aboard. Lots of space on her fully enclosed outside aft deck for lounging and plenty of space inside for comfort. Full stand up engine room provides for easy maintenance. Diesel engines and generator provide safety not found with gasoline powered boats. Originally named "Neil Vida II", the keel was laid in 1980 and was under construction until 1990 when launched. David Harmon, a retired Navy torpedo boat operator, designed and built this vessel incorporating some design features of the submarines he served aboard, such as the readily accessible plumbing and electrical systems. The hull is fabricated from all-welded steel. The bottom is 14", the sides are 316" and the deck and superstructure are 18" plate. Chine, keel and stem joints are double thickness steel and were pressure tested to ensure the hull was water tight. There has been no sign of leakage since launching. The engines are twin IH diesels. They are cooled via a heat exchanger, not a through-hull cooling system. 6 cylinders, 210 hp each with turbochargers. Estimated maximum speed is listed at 18 mph. The props, 28 x 25, 3 bladed bronze, are driven by twin Borg-Warner Velvet drives model AS73011 ratio with Walter V-dives, 2.51 ratio. The prop shafts are 2" stainless steel with 2 underwater struts supporting each shaft. Rudders are stainless steel, 38" plate, approx. 16" x 30". The generator set is a Westerbeke model WTA-20-614, 20 KW powered by a 4 cylinder diesel. The fuel tank is welded steel, externally mounted to the transom with an integral swim platform. Capacity is 550 gallons. There is a 400 gallon fresh water tank on board. Central heat and air are installed. There are 2 12 volt DC bilge pumps and a 120 VAC pump. | 1988 Cruisers 4280 Express Bridge Cruiser is the ultimate all-around boating vessel. It is powered by two Caterpillar 3208 Diesel engines pushing out 375 Hp each. The Powerboat Guide calls this boat "a party barge." The vessel was designed by Jim Wynne who also designed the 36' Hatteras convertible. The unique design has 5-step staircases on either side of the cockpit, allowing for easy access to the fly-bridge and enjoyment for you and all of your guests to maneuver safely around. The upper deck is "flush" from the top of the steps all the way forward to the bow. Entrances to the bridge on both port and starboard sides access seating for a dozen people with a full protective enclosure. From the cockpit, sliding glass doors lead to the cabin. The boat can be operated single-handedly since access to the mid-ship cleat and the bow is only a few steps from the helm.
Other accommodations below from the stern deck you enter the cabin through sliding glass doors that open up to two steps down that lead into the cabin. Once inside, the cabin is on a single (carpeted) level, the entire length and width of the boat. This makes the living space seem much larger than a 42' boat would normally provide. There is a sleep sofa, teak Hi - Low table, and end table - dresser to starboard. To port, there is an entertainment center and the "U" shaped galley. Moving forward, the 10 cu. ft. refrigerator (with a freezer) is in the companionway. Next, to starboard is the head, featuring a separate stall shower, Raritan Atlantis electric marine toilet, vanity - sink and a cabinet above. To port is the mid-ship cabin with a hanging locker, drawer storage, and a sofa that converts into a double bed. In the bow, the owner's cabin holds a queen size island bed, vanity, hanging lockers, private head entrance, 2 overhead hatches, and personal AC controls.
The bridge enclosure has a full wrap around canvas and just had new Isinglass installed. Control everything from the bridge and enjoy it with your entire guest party with the extra seating this Cruisers 4280 has to offer.
